Dylan Shaw is a second-year music education major at Hastings College, hailing from Colorado Springs, CO. Growing up in Colorado, Dylan had the chance to explore various opportunities, but a passion for music and performance always stood out. Beginning Taekwondo at six, Dylan engaged in diverse activities within the martial arts, with a particular fondness for showcasing skills and learning impressive tricks. At around nine years old, Dylan joined the demonstration team, sparking a deep love for performing.

Simultaneously, Dylan had the opportunity to join the school’s band or orchestra. Initially starting with the cello in the orchestra, the enjoyment was accompanied by the challenge of maneuvering an instrument almost the same size as himself. Seeking a change, Dylan transitioned to the school’s band, developing an interest in the alto saxophone. A profound love for music and the saxophone emerged from the first note he played, shaping Dylan’s musical journey.

Over the last 10 years, Dylan’s passion for music and playing the saxophone has only intensified. Dylan participated in several honor bands during high school, including the Adams State Honor Band in Alamosa, CO, Open Space at Hastings College, and the Colorado Springs All-City Band. After high school, Dylan decided to pursue Music Education at Hastings College, further nurturing his musical journey.

After graduating from Hastings College, Dylan plans to move back to Colorado Springs to pursue a career in teaching secondary instrumental music. Dylan also aspires to obtain a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration. His ultimate goal is to become a principal, all while continuing to perform on the side. With numerous dreams, only time will reveal where Dylan ends up in the future.
