Young Artist & Youth Concert
Maria Pytlik, a sophomore music education and trumpet performance major at Hastings College, was selected as this year’s Young Artist winner. She will be performing Alexander Arutunian’s Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra. Other selections include music composed by Hastings College Students. The orchestra will conclude the concert with Anton Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, ‘From the New World.’
The concert is dedicated in memory of Mrs. Gretchen Lainson, a longtime supporter of the HSO. She also performed a Mozart piano concerto with the HSO in 1936 with the orchestra’s founder, Frank Noyes conducting. Mrs. Lainson believed strongly in supporting the performing arts and education. She passed away last summer at the age of 105.
Concert sponsors are Deb and Byron Jensen.
