Guest composer, Mark Watters, joins the HSO as we perform some of his selections including opening music from the 1996 Summer Olympics and American Heroes (both with video), his Rhapsody for Bariton Saxophone and Orchestra, and other selections. The program concludes with Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 9 in C major (the "Great").

The HSO is joined by the Hastings College Bell Choir at both the Heartland Events Center and Masonic Center Concerts. With audience sing-alongs and kids conducting the orchestra, this is truly a musical highlight of the Christmas Season.

Our biannual Nebraska High School Young Artist Competition winners join the HSO in the fitting tribute to one of this state's most influential music educators, Larry Maupin. Musical selections include several of Mr. Maupin's favorites such as Lalo's Le Roi d'Ys Overture and John Rutter's Suite for Strings.

A CELEBRATION OF ROMANTICISM

Husband and wife duo, acclaimed cellist Steven Elisha and violinist Larisa Elisha perform separate concertos by two great Romantic composers, Antonin Dvorak and Johannes Brahms. The HSO also performs Two Elegiac Melodies by Edvard Grieg and music of Frederic Delius.

Along with Louie Eckhardt on the trumpet, the HSO celebrates the Nebraska farmers and ranchers who are the economic backbone of this great state. Featured selections include America the Beautiful, Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, and excerpts from Virgil Thompson's The Plow that Broke the Plains.
